This website is a resource library of information to support the Mohawk Valley Pet Lost & Found (MVPLF) Facebook page.
The MVPLF Facebook page is a clearing house to help missing pets reunite with their loved one. When users post detail descriptions and photos, we will make one of our signature posters that is spread on Facebook and Twitter. Please keep in mind we want to keep our focus local (within the 315 area code) so OUR lost and found do not get diluted among millions of other lost and found from across the US or NYS.
When my Whodini went missing in 2012, I was stunned to find out that at the time, there were no “clearing houses” or databases in the Utica area for lost or found pets. Finding that the Stevens-Swan humane society charges people to drop off found animals, or at times doesn’t even accept them, broke my heart. The Mohawk Valley Pet Lost & Found (MVPLF) Facebook page was originally created to look for Whodini. It has evolved into it’s own entity that has grown in the past 5 years to have over 10,000 followers.
Today, there are many Facebook pages dedicated to looking for lost and found pets. We are different that the rest out there. We are not simply a bulletin board type page where people post their lost and found and leave. We take your information and create our branded posters that are shared across Facebook and Twitter. We also work with clients by advising, offering tips, helping to form search parties, and providing traps. Additionally, when we find there is an abandoned or stray dog in a given area, we work to rescue the dog so he may have a better chance at life with a new family.
We like to encourage participation by those who lost or found pets and ask that you please let us know if you have been reconnected with your furry friend!
And spread the word! The more that join the group, the greater the chance for reunions.
